About me

Hi, my name is Evangelos Papathanassiou and I live in Berlin, Germany. With more than two decades experience in digital, I work as a strategy consultant and professional speaker whose main expertise is the digitization of our world, especially of economic processes, business mechanics, content distribution and methods of communication. I have helped companies to understand new business mechanics and adapt to a more-and-more digitized world long before we invented the term “digital transformation”. In recent years, I have specialized in media, sports and consumer goods.

Career:

I studied Science of Communication, Psychology and Marketing in Essen and graduated as a Magister Artium. My professional career started at U5 GmbH advertising agency, where I quickly became responsible for several international BMW accounts, among others BMW Middle East and BMW Motorcycles (global). In the late 90’s, I joined Internet agency I-D Media AG, initially as New Business Director, and soon thereafter was appointed to lead I-D Media’s web business with sites like cycosmos.com and wer-weiss-was.de – user-to-user-communication-platforms in a pre web 2.0-era. During this time, I also was in charge of developing a “Social-CRM”-Software in cooperation with IBM, well ahead of its time. Additionally, and after 2002 exclusively, I led I-D Media’s strategy consulting as a VP. In 2005, I joined long-time client Deutsche Telekom/T-Com as Head of Innovation Strategy as a Senior Executive VP. Since 2007 I am self employed with “Technology is our friend”, and since 2010 additionally a co-founder/owner of Mataracan.
